It can be fed to the stray cat several times to adopt him. The player can continue to feed the cat in order to unlock the option of petting the cat which possibly increases mental health.
If "You" speaks to the cat after The Director dies, he ponders on how he'll be able to feed the cat with his source of Cat Food gone.
"You" can eat the Cat Food, although it negatively impacts your mental health.
